Coronation Street’s Gail Platt (Helen Worth) is set to stun her family with a big announcement as the soap builds to her exit next month.
Actress Helen Worth told fans she was leaving the show back in June after 50 years on the cobbles.
Following a months-long break earlier this year, Helen recently returned to screens to play out her exit storyline, which began with the revelation Gail had found love with Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson).
Since then, fans have seen Gail make plans to leave the Street by putting the Platt family home up for sale.
As Gail and Jesse start making plans about how they will spend the money from the sale, they make a big decision next month.
Gail then gathers her family to make an announcement, which leaves them speechless.
Later that week, Gail brings mum Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls), daughter Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), granddaughter Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) and daughter-in-law Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) together at the Rovers in an attempt to bury the hatchet.
She is also insistent that her long-time frenemy Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) joins them – something she soon lives to regret when Eileen takes every opportunity to poke fun at Gail as they take part in a quiz.
Gail’s exit story was originally set to involve her reuniting with her former husband Martin Platt, but after Sean Wilson left the show after filming had started, the story was quickly redrafted and John Thomson was brought back as Jesse Chadwick.
Speaking about her departure in June, Helen shared: ‘This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers, who were very kind and understanding.’
