Coronation Street spoilers: Marriage joy revealed for serial wedders Nick and Leanne
Coronation Street looks set for its first wedding of the year as Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) buys the perfect present for long-term girlfriend (and twice ex-wife) Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).
Long term viewers will remember that the couple first met shortly after the troublesome Battersby family crashed onto Coronation Street, becoming the nightmare, noisy next-door neighbours to Emily Bishop (Eileen Derbyshire) and going wild in the aisles at Firman’s Freezers, causing chaos for shop assistant Alma Baldwin (Amanda Barrie).
Nick (then portrayed by Adam Rickitt) had returned from a stay in Canada with uncle Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) and it wasn’t long before Leanne was swooning over him whilst he took up a new position at the garage.
Against their families’ advice, the two eloped to Scotland just months after meeting each other for a secret wedding.
Wedded bliss didn’t last long though as the couple broke up when Leanne fell pregnant and they mutually agreed to an abortion.
Over a decade later, Nick returned home to Weatherfield, though it took a while for the couple to finally cement adoration for each other again, with their second wedding ceremony taking place at the beginning of 2013.
In true Corrie fashion, both couples have since been unfaithful, Nick has married twice and Leanne gave birth to a son fathered by Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), yet somehow they’ve still found themselves inseparable.
In more recent weeks, the childhood sweethearts have had fresh drama with Leanne’s adopted son Simon (Alex Bain) moving back into their flat, losing his job and looking for answers at the bottom of a bottle.
Coming up, we’ll see Nick ask Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor) to accompany him shopping, asking Simon to drive his son Sam (Jude Riordan) to his chess competition – unaware that he’s spent the night partying and is over limit.
En route, Simon loses control of the car and crashes into the road sign, infuriating Leanne and terrifying young Sam.
Meanwhile, Nick and Toyah admire the beautiful engagement ring he’s bought, planning to propose to Leanne for the third time.
How will Leanne take to their third attempt, and will Simon’s misbehaviour halt their nuptials?
