Coronation Street double exit ‘sealed’ after icon’s heartbreaking teen storyline
EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street fans were thrilled to see Violet return to the famous cobbles, but she isn't set to stick around and the former barmaid may not be the only one leaving
One beloved Coronation Street icon is set to say goodbye to the famous cobbles next week – but maybe not alone.
Over the past few months, ITV fans have been glued to their screens as school bully Mason Radcliffe (played by Luca Toolan) has wreaked havoc at Weatherfield High School. Viewers have watched Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) and Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) be terrorised by the highschooler ever since he arrived on the street.
After months of bullying his fellow students, Mason has built up quite a reputation for himself both inside and outside the school grounds. Tensions have been rising between Dylan and Mason after Liam took a dark turn due to the constant bullying.
Now, Dylan’s estranged mother Violet Wilson (played by Jenny Platt) has returned to Weatherfield for the first time in 16 years. The actor left the ITV soap back in 2008, and it’s fair to say she’s got plenty to straighten out with her ex Sean Tully (Antony Cotton).
But the blonde bombshell isn’t set to stick around for a long time, as the soap star shared her plans for Violet’s future. Speaking to Daily Star and other press, the former barmaid lifted the lid on her hopes for the loveable character after her son’s horrific bullying ordeal.
When asked if she would love to continue working on the soap, the actress confessed she has two answers. She told us: “I think there’s two different answers for that, I think one is the answer for Violet and one is the answer for me as the actress.”
“So for Violet, in many ways, I actually think maybe it’d be a nice thing for her to be able to just disappear off to London, take Dylan with her, keep him safe and just go back to normal life. And I think that would be the best outcome for Violet and the best thing for Dylan maybe.
“But as an actress, obviously I’ve never felt like, ‘Oh, I want to put that character to bed’. I loved my time on Coronation Street, and I’ve always found Violet really lovely to play.”
Jenny went on: “She’s got heart and she’s warm, but she’s made a lot of mistakes. So, I always feel like she’s kind of one of us, and of course I’d love to see what she could get up to if Dylan was getting up to more trouble.
“And especially that idea of co-parenting with a non-romantic partner. I’d find that a really interesting one and that would be great to develop on screen.
“So those are the two answers. I think for Violet it would be much better if she just disappeared off. But for me as the actress, of course it would be great fun to see her come back and see what she would get up to.”
Coronation Street fans will have to stay tuned to see if her character will return to the famous cobbles in the future.
