Comedy legend reveals how her new Coronation Street character seduces cobbles icon Ken Barlow with bold move
She also confirmed her character's future on Corrie ahead of her debut
COMEDIAN Helen Lederer has revealed more about her guest stint in Coronation Street as newcomer Elspeth.
The star will appear for a one-off episode later this month and will feature in scenes with Bill Roache, who plays silver fox Ken Barlow.
Corrie’s upcoming storyline sees Ken attend a singles’ cocktail night at the Chariot Square.
Elspeth sends drinks over to him and his son-in-law Steve McDonald after he catches her eyes.
She is then invited to join their table and the pair immediately hit it off.
Steve is left gutted over Ken’s success with the ladies as he has yet to meet someone himself.
Speaking about her character for the first time, Helen explained how she managed to seduce Ken.
She said: “This is where she is bold, she does something which is often something that men will do to women.
“She gets Debbie to send over two drinks to Ken and Steve to get Ken’s attention.
“I think bold is a very keyword now for this generation of women of a certain age who still want to live their life.
“If she wants to have a chat with a person she thinks ‘I’ll do that’.
“So many people would have the fear of being rejected but she doesn’t.
“She takes the initiative and she is not disappointed as Ken is open to getting to know her.”
Helen also mentioned how her character clicked with Ken and hinted at the possibility of another appearance on the show.
“He definitely made sure he got her number, he initiated it. So who knows one day he might actually call her and I can come back to Weatherfield,” she added.
Earlier this year, Helen teased her Corrie appearance on X with a selfie outside the soap’s studio in Salford.
“Where am I what am I doing will I remember @itvcorrie,” she wrote as she posed alongside a ‘Coronation Street’ sign.
The star has since shared a look at her guest role in the soap and said: “Who is this handsome man that I (Elspeth) may be dating?! #Corrie #ComingSoon #CoronationStreet #Elspeth.”
