Former Coronation Street star Sean Wilson discusses possible return to acting

Former Coronation Street star Sean Wilson has discussed a possible return to acting.

Wilson played Martin Platt, one of Gail’s many ex-husbands, on the ITV soap between 1985 and 2005, as well as for a short stint in 2018. Since then, he has turned his attention to the food industry, working as a chef and later starting his own cheese company.

That doesn’t mean he’s turned his back on acting though, and he has spoken about wanting to star in more TV dramas.

“I think I have a lot to give on the acting side,” he told Bang Showbiz. “But maybe in more serious projects.

“Definitely a serious drama, there’s loads of them about and my agent keeps putting me up for them and when I see them on the TV I’m like, ‘Oh my god, why am I not in this?’

“But it is what it is. The beauty of my position is that I’m not relying on my agent ringing me every day. Either showbusiness wants me or it doesn’t.”

Wilson added that he is “talking with a production company at the moment” about trying to pitch a food-based show to the Discovery Channel or something similar.

This isn’t the first time Wilson has spoken about a TV return. Last year he opened up about the possibility of another Corrie return.

“I made it clear that I could be turned, but now it’s 2023 and nothing has happened,” he told the Manchester Evening News.

“The writers decided to send me to New Zealand, so maybe they’re trying to tell me something. I am busy writing books, but of course I would give it some thought.”
