Jodie Prenger reveals unexpected romance for Glenda and Coronation Street favourite
Jodie Prenger has teased an upcoming relationship for her character Glenda Shuttleworth in Coronation Street.
Bold and colourful Glenda burst onto the cobbles two years ago to join her funeral director brother George (Tony Maudsley) in Weatherfield.
Waltzing straight from her work on a cruise ship to the bar of the Rovers Return, she also took up work managing her own franchise of Little Big Shotz, a performing arts school held at the community centre.
Actress Jodie found fame in BBC talent contest I’d Do Anything, in which she competed (and later won) a place as Nancy in a West End revival of ‘Oliver!’.
Upcoming scenes in the ITV soap will see her targeted following a break-in at the pub.
After hosting a speed dating night, and setting Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) up with a tattooed fella, she retires to bed for the evening.
Heading downstairs in the middle of the night for a glass of water, she overhears a commotion in the public and finds masked burglars raiding the till.
As they make off with the takings, she’d left terrified and fearing for her life on the floor.
‘It’s the worst feeling for anyone to go through to see somebody invading your home, your private space and something that you are there really to protect and look after’ she explained.
‘The two fellas that did it, they were brilliant but brilliant for all the wrong reasons. They were scary and it was so atmospheric.’
Bringing her delightful theatrical campness to the role, Jodie is now hoping to show a romantic side to the character off the back of the dating event – but wouldn’t give away who she is set to be coupled up with!
‘Put it this way, I don’t know who’s more thrilled – Jodie or Glenda! There’s something on the cards, [but] I can’t tell you who’ she teased.
‘This is one of the most endearing and wonderful thing about Coronation Street, people genuinely care. You always get asked “Oh, when are you going to find love?” And that’s lovely,’
‘It’s like your friends out there are just going “Are they gonna get you a nice fella?” and I love that. I really love that.’
