Corrie icon Tracy Barlow’s return ‘confirmed’ after shock exit — and it’s not far away
Corrie fans were left gutted at Tracy Barlow’s abrupt exit - now just weeks after she said her goodbye to the cobbles it’s been claimed the soap legend is set to make a return
Coronation Street’s Tracy Barlow could be set to make her return – just weeks after her surprise exit.
The soap icon, played by Kate Ford, has been a firm-favourite on the ITV soap for decades. And it’s fair to say she’s had some big storylines.
From murder to affairs, Tracy’s time on the cobbles has not been short of drama. However, last month, the character suddenly left Weatherfield – leaving fans in shock at the abrupt exit.
Viewers will recall that earlier this year she struck up an affair with former footballer turned decorator Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn). In typical soap fashion, the pair were eventually caught out leaving husband Steve (Simon Gregson) heartbroken.
Despite getting back with Steve thinking she could things work, Tracy soon found out that Tommy had left her a note asking her to move to Spain with him. Steve had found the note before Tracy read it though, and came clean to Tracy.
And in a shock twist, Stacey decided to follow her love to Spain and move abroad with him. In scenes that aired last month, Tracy had leaving drinks at The Rovers.
After hugging it out with her family and friends, she got into her beau’s van and left the cobbles to start a new life, seemingly for good.
But now, the return of Tracy has been teaser by soap expert Sharon Marshall. Appearing on This Morning on Tuesday (April 24), the writer gave fans a peek at what’s coming up in soap land this week.
Talking about Steve’s new romance storyline, Sharon teased it could be short-lived, thanks to Tracy. She said: “I’m wondering… I mean Tracy, that was a bit of a low-key exit for such a major character mid-week, you know? Is she going to be coming back? That’s what I wonder, anyway!”
Corrie fans will remember Tracy being born on-screen on 24 January 1977. She was played by Christabel Finch until 21 November 1983.
It was then Holly Chamarette who went on to play the role from 8 July 1985 until 23 March 1988. Dawn Acton stepped into the role of Deirdre Barlow’s daughter from 12 December 1988 to 10 July 1995.
She also went on to reprise the role of Ken Barlow’s adoptive daughter Tracey for two further short stints in November 1996 and December 1997. Acton took on the part of Tracy one further time on 14 March 1999 before Kate Ford took over on 25 December 2002 to 8 April 2007.
Ford took a brief stint away from the programme but return again in late May and early June 2010. Becoming a full-time cast member on 24 December 2010.
