ITV Coronation Street ‘rumble’ Steve’s real love interest – and it’s ‘not Demi’ amid ‘twist’
Coronation Street fans are convinced they've rumbled a love twist for Steve McDonald after he went on a successful date with Demi last week
Coronation Street fans are convinced they’ve rumbled a love twist for Steve McDonald.
Soap fans will recall that Steve’s estranged wife Tracy Barlow appeared to exit the cobbles last month as she was seen saying her goodbyes to her relatives including dad Ken Barlow and daughter Amy Barlow. Having leaving drinks at The Rovers, she then hugged it out with her nearest and dearest and left the cobbles to start a new life with lover Tommy Orpington in Spain, seemingly for good.
On the cobbles last week, Steve attempted to date again but with disastrous results. At first, Steve was delighted to get three matches on a dating site and on Wednesday he met with Carole in the Rovers. However, Steve was stunned to see she brought three friends with her as they wanted to suss him out.
After convincing married pal, Tim Metcalfe, to join him as Carole’s pal Aurora was interested, things went from bad to worse when Tim’s wife Sally Metcalfe showed up and furiously took him home. Hoping for another date, Steve was gutted to hear Carole didn’t find him attractive and didn’t want to meet again.

On Friday’s episode, Steve was ready to give up on dating that was until he got a message from Demi. As Steve prepared for his date, he told daughter, Amy, that Demi was the one and later at the Rovers the pair hit it off immediately, especially when Demi slammed former footballer Tommy O and expressed she couldn’t stand him. After the successful date, Steve and Demi agreed to meet up again.
Despite things seeming to go well, soap watchers are convinced they’ve rumbled a love interest twist for Steve. Taking to social media, one person suggested that Becky McDonald, played by Katherine Kelly, should return.
It comes as fans have been speculating whether Becky could make a return after 12 years in order to “save Roy Cropper” after he was wrongly arrested and charged for Lauren Bolton’s murder. Soap fans will recall that Roy and late wife Hayley took in troubled character Becky, where she moved in with the duo and worked at Roy’s Rolls. Due to their kindness, loyal Becky would do anything for Roy and Hayley.
After a tumultuous relationship and marriage to Steve, Becky eventually left the cobbles in 2012, jetting off to Barbados for a new life after getting revenge on love rival Tracy and ex Steve. However, despite a 12 year absence, viewers are convinced she could return out of loyalty to Roy to help get him free and in the process strike up a rekindled romance with Steve.
One person said: “I want to give my take on Steve’s love life. I would dearly love Becky to come back and be an ally for Roy as she played an important part in Roy’s life way back and therefore, striking up a relationship with Steve as they definitely have history, I’d just love to see her and Steve back behind the bar of the Rovers again” to which a different account replied: “Becky is my all time favourite character.”
Meanwhile, it comes as fans are convinced fresh heartbreak could be around the corner as fans speculated Demi could be an ex of Tommy O and is using Steve as revenge for the former footballer running off with Tracy.
