Coronation Street spoilers: Sinister new hint ‘confirms’ that Dee-Dee’s mysterious boyfriend Joel killed Lauren
For some time, Coronation Street fans have wondered whether solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill) could have some sinister connection to the mysterious disappearance of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
And with the truth about what happened to Lauren about to be revealed in a special week of episodes it’s looking increasingly likely that Joel could be the culprit.
Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) hadn’t been in a relationship with Joel for long before she found out he’d been keeping a major secret from her – he had a wife and child he’d never thought to mention to her before.
So we know he’s a person who can convincingly lie when he needs to, but obviously that’s no indication that he could possibly be a killer.
Then there were the flowers that Lauren received from her ‘boyfriend’ in February. Dee-Dee received a very similar bouquet from Joel. Again, not exactly a smoking gun but possibly part of a more sinister puzzle.
Another thing that Corrie fans have noticed is the resemblance between Joel and evil Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper), with some speculation that he could be the brother of the twisted pervert who’s recently returned to Weatherfield after doing jail time for grooming and raping Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon).
In upcoming episodes, Nathan is arrested after police find one of Lauren’s hairs in his van. Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) tries to plant evidence on Nathan to get rid of him by taking one of Lauren’s hair bobbles, left at the Platts,’ to hide it in his van at the building site.
She’s caught in the act by police officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) who warns her to let the police do their job. The hair could have come from that, but the police also find USB sticks in the van that could breach Nathan’s sexual harm prevention order.
At the police station, Nathan’s solicitor arrives – and it’s Joel. Dee-Dee is furious when she discovers that her boyfriend is representing a character who is so morally corrupt – and whose arrest offers the best hope for Roy Cropper (David Neilson) being released from prison.
‘Dee-Dee isn’t happy about Joel representing Nathan,’ Channique Sterling-Brown told us.
‘Dee-Dee has such a strong moral compass and Nathan is potentially the key to proving Roy’s innocence. In addition to this, the fact that Nathan is someone who has hurt Bethany, and Dee-Dee and Sarah are really good friends, will probably cause a bit of friction between Joel and Dee-Dee.’
But could Joel be about to reveal a closer involvement with Nathan? Is he the key to the whole mystery of who killed Lauren Bolton?
