EXCLUSIVE: ITV Coronation Street’s Cait Fitton teases Lauren’s future on Cobbles after Joel’s dark threat
Coronation Street star Cait Fitton - who plays Lauren Bolton on the ITV soap - has teased if Lauren will stay on the Cobbles after the truth about Joel was revealed
Coronation Street star Cait Fitton has teased whether she will stay on the Cobbles.
Joel Deering – played by Callum Lill – is doing what he can to get rid of Lauren after it was confirmed that she was very much alive, despite him attacking her and leaving her for dead. Viewers were also shocked to find that Lauren was pregnant with Joel’s baby, giving him even more of a motive to get rid of her before the truth comes out.
He has made it a plan to send her to Ireland, away from the scene of the crime, on the promise that he will look after her and the baby and make sure her child is always safe. However, will that happen – or will his plan be thwarted?
Asked if she was staying on the Cobbles, she told us: “Fingers crossed! I don’t know what’s going to happen moving forward but I really hope I’m there as long as I can be, because I love the character, the place and the people.

“It’s just an amazing place to work and I’m so so grateful. There’s a lot I can do with Lauren. What you see is not what you get. In the long term, I can really dive into the character more and hopefully stay on for as long as I want to really!”
Cait is hopeful that Lauren can get justice for what’s happened to her – and thinks the only option is for Joel to be jailed.
“I really hope [she gets justice]. With anything, when you’re a villain, there’s always an end point to it. With doing a storyline like this, girls like Lauren need justice. That’s why this storyline is so important because this happens to women every day. Grooming, sexual exploitation. It’s still happening today,” she explained of the real life story behind Lauren’s storyline.
Cait has had to work closely with Callum on the huge scenes and heaped praise on her co-star.
Speaking of working with Callum Lill, she shared: “Cal’s brilliant – he’s a lovely human being but he is terrifying when he’s in Joel mode. I hope we can take him down. It would be great if we could get a girl group and take him down!”
