Coronation Street fans are only just realising Mason star has a very famous dad
Coronation Street actor Luca Toolan made his professional acting debut on the cobbles playing the role of Mason Radclyffe in scenes with Simon Gregson and Samia Longchambon
Coronation Street’s Luca Toolan made quite the entrance when he joined the ITV soap as Mason Radclyffe, a school bully, at the end of 2023. However, fame runs in the family, with his father Mike Toolan being a well-known radio DJ on Hits Radio, where he works alongside other soap stars like Brooke Vincent from Coronation Street and Gemma Atkinson from Hollyoaks.
As viewers will know, Mason has been at the centre of a heart-wrenching bullying storyline, relentlessly targeting Liam Connor Jnr since his arrival on the show last year. The plot took a dark turn when Mason pulled a knife on a terrified Liam, leading to Mason being sent to a Young Offenders centre.
Recently, Dylan, another young character on the show, has been living in fear after hearing that Mason has been released. Earlier this year, Dylan bravely testified against Mason in court, helping to secure justice for Liam.
However, upcoming episodes reveal that Maria, Liam’s mum, breaks the news to Dylan that Mason is free after serving just three months.
Away from the cobbles, Luca Toolan, who plays Mason on Corrie, returns to his family home with his famous father. The familial connection was a surprise for many Coronation Street fans, as evidenced by recent social media chatter, reports OK!.
After a recent episode featuring Mason in court, Luca’s dad Mike, currently co-hosting Hits Radio’s drivetime show, posted a picture of his son receiving his verdict on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter ), captioned: “Guilty! I knew it!”
He followed up with: “What an episode @coronationstreet Bloody amazing acting all round [clapping emojis]. And Liam’s face in the 2nd pic,” to which Luca responded: “Thanks Dad.”

However, Luca’s co-star Simon Gregson, better known as Steve McDonald, couldn’t resist a joke: “I blame the parents here looks wrongun.”
During Luca’s appearance on This Morning in February, presenter Rochelle Humes also highlighted his famous lineage, exclaiming: “I know your dad! Sorry, I didn’t know it was that Mike! When we were in [The Saturdays] we used to do radio tours and we always used to see your dad. Sorry, that took me by surprise.”
Since the news broke, fans have been flocking to X, stunned by the connection. One fan wrote: “Luca Toolan who plays Mason on Corrie seems a nice lad. So it shows he’s playing him well. I can’t stand Mason but that’s the point though isn’t it.
Another suspicious fan asked: “Would Luca Toolan have gotten the Corrie gig if his dad wasn’t famous?” Another fan remarked: “He’s Mike Toolan’s son , the radio DJ.. You may not have heard of him, but he looks like his dad..”
Then another observant fan announced: “I knew it! ! ! I said to my wife sure thats Mike Toolan ‘s son . Well done all great to see!”
