Eileen Grimshaw makes rare appearance as she wades into huge storyline in Coronation Street
The Corrie legend has been away from the limelight for months.
DESPITE being one of Weatherfield’s longest-standing residents, Eileen Grimshaw has been held at arm’s length from the spotlight.
In upcoming scenes, the Coronation Street icon finally reappears as one of the soap’s hard-hitting storylines continues to unfold.
Actress Sue Cleaver has remained in the ITV cobbles since her first appearance in 2000 and has become a favourite among soap fans.
Throughout the decades, her on-screen alter ego Eileen Grimshaw has not only been known for her string of failed relationships but she’s also famous for her dramatic ongoing feud with Gail Platt.
The pair have sparred publicly over the years, although tensions seem to have quietened down in more recent months, particularly as Eileen has been freed from any trouble.
Eileen is romantically involved with undertaker George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) and the couple have enjoyed some more or less drama-free times in the cobbles.
But when Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) rumbles the truth about Liam Connor’s bullying horror and his son Dylan Wilson’s part in the ordeal, Eileen returns to the front of the stage, ready to give him some advice.
It all starts when Mason goads Gary Windass (Mikey North), telling him that Liam needs to watch his back.
As he realises that his stepson has been relentlessly bullied by Mason, Gary sees red and throws him to the ground.
Mason is clearly in danger as Gary is known to not shy away from murder if the situation requires it, as he proved when loan shark Rick Neelan was preying on Weatherfield residents.
Sean spots the scene and quickly rushes over to separate them.
He threatens to report Gary to the police but also remains determined to clear his own son Dylan’s (Liam McCheyne) name.
Sean thus demands that Dylan hands over his phone but as he scrolls through the youngster’s messages, a look of horror appears on his face.
George, Eileen and Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) make a fuss of Dylan on his birthday, but Sean can barely look at him following his discovery.
Dylan feels awful as he unwraps a watch to see that Sean has had it engraved.
This prompts Eileen to urge Sean to sit down and talk to Dylan properly.
Will Sean, Eileen’s eternal friend and lodger, listen to what she has to say?
While Mason has been the main instigator of Liam’s bullying ordeal, Dylan refused to stand up for him.
He has also been peer pressured into taking part in the bullying.
This was despite Liam and Mason starting off as friends due to the latter’s vapes landing the lad in hospital after an asthma attack.
What will Sean do?
Coronation Street airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
