ITV Coronation Street heartbreak as couple split after decade as fans remember ‘forgotten link’

Fans of Coronation Street were left heartbroken on Wednesday night as one couple appeared to split after a decade.

Viewers will recall that it’s been a dramatic few weeks for Beth Tinker. Beth had been using the equipment at Underworld as part of her dodgy side hustle to sew logos onto counterfeit T-shirts. In recent scenes, Beth was rumbled by DS Lisa Swain’s daughter Betsy, who had been working at the factory on work experience.

This forced Beth to let Betsy join in on her side hustle for a cut of the profits in order to keep her secret safe. It wasn’t long until Beth informed Betsy that she had secured them a huge T-shirt order with criminal Sid and invited Izzy Armstrong to join their operation as the trio worked hard to sort out the counterfeit goods. However, Beth’s criminal business was soon rumbled while dodgy police officer Kit Green got into secret cahoots with Sid and his counterfeit T-shirt business, warning he wont say a word as long as he gets half the cut of profits.

On Monday night, Beth was fuming to discover Sid was selling their knock-off T-shirts in the precinct and keeping all the profits for himself. Beth was left further stunned to see Kit involved in the business, accusing him of being a bent copper and claiming to have rumbled he wasn’t the good guy he’d made out to be.

And things went from bad to worse on Wednesday when Kit blackmailed Beth. After handing her some cash, Kit told Beth he wants her out of Weatherfield by the end of the week or he’ll end her son Craig Tinker’s police career. At the same time, Kirk Sutherland admitted to Beth he can’t live without her and revealed their dog Peanut wearing a neckerchief saying ‘marry me?’

Beth was put in a tricky position before she turned down Kirk’s proposal, claiming she was moving to Norwich after being offered a new opportunity at a factory there. Kirk offered to move with her but Beth stopped him, dropping the bombshell that she was leaving the next day and started at the factory immediately. With a rejected proposal and Beth leaving, is this really the end for the couple after a decade together?

Meanwhile during the scenes, Kirk’s sister Maria Connor protected her brother as she confronted Beth for rejecting his proposal, expressing her confusion. Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers had forgot that Kirk and Maria were related as they shared their thoughts. One person said: “I have to sometimes remind myself that Kirk and Maria are brother and sister. #Corrie”, a different account put: “Wow finally a scene between brother and sister.. Maria and Kirk. #Corrie” while a different account added: “Maria and Kirk have interacted more in the last few months than in the last five years. #Corrie.”

It comes as Beth actress Lisa George confirmed she was set to leave Coronation Street at the end of this week as she’s due to take to the stage in a huge panto production.
