Coronation Street confirms unlikely character teams up with Swain – but not Lauren or Dee-Dee
Joel Deering is inches away from his downfall as one forgotten resident is set to tell DS Lisa Swain everything they know about the villainous Corrie character.
Lauren Bolton and Dee-Dee Bailey have been speculated to help DS Lisa Swain in her efforts to take Joel Deering down but another character could crawl out of the woodwork in upcoming Coronation Street scenes.
Wayward teen Lauren (portrayed by Cait Fitton) vanished from the ITV cobbles earlier this year and she was presumed dead when blood spatters were found in her flat.
While she was later revealed to be alive, making a spectacular return in July, to announce she was pregnant with Joel’s baby, her disappearance led to the discovery of another young woman who was being tormented by the duty solicitor (Calum Lill) named Ellie.
Though she was initially under his grasp, Ellie was eventually able to break free of him and viewers of the ITV soap were concerned when he was seen deleting her number from his phone, hinting that she could have met a brutal demise.
But in a surprising twist, Ellie was then heard from again as she tried to blackmail Joel, but she eventually disappeared herself, leaving nothing behind. Next week, however, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) finds a way to track her down.

It all begins when the detective informs Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) that Joel’s work phone showed text messages coming from an unknown female, prompting her to make the decision to figure out who he has been chatting to.
Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) later agrees to track Ellie down himself, unaware of where his search may lead him, but he is warned that nobody within the Weatherfield police force must find out about the quest as it could result in both him and Swain to lose their jobs.
In recent scenes aired this Wednesday (September 4), Lisa Swain was told she needed to keep away from Joel and stop her investigation around him, despite her gut instinct that he was “up to his neck.”
For context, Joel has successfully framed Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper) for his actions on Lauren, but with Dee-Dee and the teen ready to fully expose him, DS Swain knows it’s only a matter of time and evidence until she can finally throw the book at him.
Thankfully for the detective, the police constable is successful in his search as he finds Ellie’s address – but what will he find and will Ellie even want to talk to him or Lisa? Silence has mostly kept Joel out of prison but with Lauren’s testimony against him, one could assume Ellie may be encouraged to speak out too.
While she focuses on bringing Joel down, unbeknownst to her superiors, fans have theorised DS Lisa Swain, a single lesbian mother who has grown more popular among viewers in the course of her stint on the Manchester-based show, could embark on a romance with Carla Connor as spoilers have confirmed the pair will share more cosy scenes on our screens.
