Coronation Street confirms unexpected return as funeral tragedy rocks Weatherfield
There’s a nasty surprise for Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) loved ones as the day of his funeral arrives in Coronation Street next week.
Preparations for the big day have been somewhat fraught as his mum Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) and husband Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) have been at odds over their ideas.
However, both are set to have the same reaction when Paul’s estranged dad Denny Foreman (Danny Cunningham) makes an unexpected appearance at his funeral.
In scenes to air next week, Billy is full of emotions as he prepares to lead the service on what would have been his and Paul’s first wedding anniversary.
When he arrives at the church, he is horrified to find a drunken Denny skulking in the shadows and orders him to behave and keep out of sight.
Denny – who was estranged from his kids – turned up in Weatherfield back in April, after hearing that Paul was dying from motor neurone disease on a local radio station.
He and Paul managed to reconnect, but this was much to the concern of Bernie and Billy.
However, Paul severed all ties with his no-good father after he attempted to steal his wheelchair.
At Paul’s funeral, Denny watches on as Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) carry Paul’s coffin down the aisle with Bernie and Paul’s twin sister Gemma Winter-Brown (Dolly-Rose Campbell) following behind.
But what will happen when Bernie spots her ex among the congregation?
