ITV Coronation Street Joel Deering’s fate ‘rumbled’ as fans unmask mystery accomplice

Joel Deering has vanished from the Corrie cobbles but after this Monday's trip to Weatherfield, soap fans are convinced the duty solicitor has an accomplice doing his bidding.

ITV viewers are certain Joel isn't working alone

Coronation Street viewers were left in suspense on Monday night as a new mystery surrounding Joel Deering unfolded.

During this Monday’s instalment of the ITV soap (September 30, 2024), Dee-Dee Bailey, portrayed by Channique Sterling-Brown, received a strange voice message from her wicked ex Joel, played by Calum Lill. DS Lisa Swain, played by Vicky Myers, suggested it might be a suicide note.

Long-time Coronation Street fans will remember that Joel was recently exposed for his heinous crimes, with evidence leading to his imminent imprisonment and his fiancé Dee-Dee calling off their wedding.

Later in Monday’s episode, fellow cop Kit Green, played by Jacob Roberts, announced he had a lead on Joel’s location. They discovered his car parked next to a bridge with a folded note on the dashboard, sparking fears he may have taken his own life.

However, Dee-Dee wasn’t convinced by the police’s theory and decided to investigate the crime scene herself. After consulting with one of Joel’s previous victims, Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), about the location image she had tracked of Joel, Dee-Dee found a small car hidden in the woods, reports the Express.

She immediately informed DS Swain, who promised to look into it. Later, while searching Joel’s flat, DS Swain and Kit found the notebook the villainous solicitor used for his note, realising that it was all premeditated. Later, as Dee-Dee remained convinced that Joel had staged the entire scene, Kit got a shocking call confirming the car was indeed Joel’s, with his DNA inside and a laptop hidden under the seat. While they were puzzled by an unused second vehicle, DS Swain admitted, “There’s no obvious answer! “.

Viewers think they’ve cracked it, flocking to Twitter, now X, with their theories. Fans are sure that Joel has staged his own demise for a dramatic future plotline, perhaps with Kit’s assistance. Speculation about shady police officer Kit has been rife among fans after his previous scheme involving planted DNA to frame Nathan Curtis, liberating the real suspect Joel.

On Twitter, now X, theories abound. One user speculated, “Looks like Joel gonna be back for xmas revenge storyline #Corrie”, while another declared, “#Corrie ah yes – Joel faking his death! ” A third suggested, “Kit has a hand in this Joel business. Mark my words. #corrie” Another voiced distrust: “Kit helped orchestrate that #corrie” and yet another expressed scepticism, “Don’t trust Kit at all… #corrie.”

Calum Lill was announced to be on his way out of Weatherfield during the summer. The former Hollyoaks actor joined the ITV soap last year as the duty solicitor and a new love interest for Dee-Dee Bailey and while he made a good impression on the fan favourite, viewers were immediately suspicious of him.

In recent months, it was then revealed that soap fans were right to doubt him as he was the cause of Lauren Bolton’s disappearance, tormenting the cash-strapped teen and fathering her new-born son. It has now been confirmed that the storyline will culminate in Joel’s exit from Weatherfield as the actor has quit the long-running show.

“Calum has made a huge impact as Joel over the last year but he always knew it would be for a fixed term”, a source told The Sun. Calum’s last scenes in the Manchester-based programme are due to air in the coming months as the insider continued: “He’s been great playing Joel but all good soap villains must get their comeuppance and Joel’s is coming very soon.” But has he gone on the run never to be heard from again?
