Coronation Street’s Gail Platt fights for her life as she suffers cardiac arrest – and doctor issues chilling warning
CORONATION Street’s Gail Platt has been left fighting for her life – with doctors issuing a chilling warning today.
The cobbles icon – who is played by actress Helen Worth in the ITV soap – was overwhelmed as children David and Sarah kept sniping at her and boyfriend Jesse.
When he arrived to defend her, she demanded they leave the house so she could calm down.
But instead of that happening, Gail took a turn for the worst and Jesse jumped into action calling for an ambulance and trying to keep her calm.
“I think I’m having a heart attack,” Gail said as the paramedics arrived.
“She’d had a row with the kids, they can be a right handful as far as I can tell and she got herself worked up,” Jesse added, throwing blame on David and Sarah.
“She’s had a heart attack about three years ago.”
Gail insisted she was fine and told them the medication she was on as she struggled to catch her breath.
“Chest pains, tiredness,” Gail tried to tell them as she struggled to breathe.
The paramedics ran tests and quickly rushed Gail into hospital where she lost consciousness and they battled to save her life.
“She went into cardiac arrest as soon as they brought her in, they had to use those great big pad things to get her heart started again,” Jesse said as David, Nick and Sarah arrived.
But then Jesse told them that there was something else going on and that doctors were still working on her.
Later the doctor came out and revealed there was a blockage in Gail’s heart – and she needs an angioplasty to remove it.
But she warned that Gail may have suffered serious damage in the cardiac arrest and it would be some time before they knew the extent of what’s happened.
The storyline marks the exit of actress Helen after 50 years in the role of Gail.
She is set to leave later this year in what’s been described as a happy ending.
