Coronation Street fans rumble who really killed Joel Deering – and it’s not DS Swain
Though DS Lisa Swain is usually on the right side of the law, recent Coronation Street scenes suggested she may have killed Joel Deering but a handful of viewers have suggested she is a red herring.
Viewers of the ITV soap were left screaming when the detective portrayed by Vicky Myers shared scenes with her love interest, Corrie veteran Carla Connor. But as this Monday’s (October 28) instalment of the long-running show drew to a close, chilling scenes showed Lisa’s private struggles as she examined some nasty bruises left all over her body.
This then triggered an eerie flashback scene during which Lisa was ordering an unknown person, supposedly the late Joel Deering, to stand down and stop their car. Terrified, Lisa stood in front of the vehicle’s blaring lights and it was enough to imply that she could have hurt Joel for the harm he caused her daughter Betsy.
Earlier on in the Manchester-based drama, Lisa was called to look into a damaged car and she was intrigued to find out one of the vehicle’s side-view mirror had been torn by another car, reportedly red, on the day of Joel’s death.
While Lisa’s flashback are a hint she could be responsible for Joel’s murder on September 27, a multitude of viewers have suspected she may not have killed Joel as her colleague Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) was a stronger contender.

“My theory is that our Lisa was hit by the car, in the flashback at the end you can hear the car rev, it would explain the injuries”, one soap fan wrote on Twitter, now X. Another added: “So I think Lisa caught someone attacking Joel and she’s running after them, only to get hit/ run over by the car they got into.”
A third then chimed in: “Kit killed Joel, he drives a red car just saying”, before another TV watcher threw another name into the mix: “I still think Betsy or Kit killed Joel?” But with Kit’s past shrouded in secrecy, the character could have a murderous streak.
Speaking to The Mirror in September before the Joel twist aired, actor Jacob addressed the fan theories surrounding Kit’s mysterious past, and whether he might have killed someone before. While he wasn’t specifically speaking about the Joel storyline, the scenes would have already been filmed when we spoke to him.
He certainly teased there was something fans were yet to uncover about him, while he hopes it will stay this way. Again while he wasn’t speaking about Joel specifically it could be relevant, as he told us whether he thought Kit was a killer or not.
Jacob said: “I’m enjoying that you don’t know too much about him at the moment. That mystery there, he’s an independent character. He doesn’t rely on anyone else. I would quite like to keep it that way for as long as possible before you find out why he is the way he is.”
“I think he has a bad side, but I don’t think he is quite a villain but I’ll let the audience be the judge that one. He does things and justifies them like with the Nathan stuff. He thought he was getting another bad person off the street.”
“We don’t know if he’s capable of murder or if he’s totally innocent. That sort of stuff is always nice to know but I don’t even know what’s coming up! I just like this naughty side where he can get away with it, and if we can keep going with that, the blackmail, the people in his pockets, that would be great.” Could he have killed Joel?
