Abi gets bad illness news as her devastating ordeal gets worse in Coronation Street
Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine) has been left devastated after deepfake porn videos have prevented her from seeing her children in Coronation Street.
Viewers of the ITV soap will remember that her twins Charlie and Lexi were taken into care in 2017 when she was deemed to be an unfit mother due to extensive substance abuse issues.
Further devastation followed when she learnt that their adoptive parents were moving them to Australia.
Ever since losing her eldest son Seb (Harry Visinoni) in a vicious attack at the hands of Corey Brent (Maximus Evans), Abi’s regret over her past mistakes has worsened.
These feels have resurfaced in the past month, when she discovered that an independent production company had made a documentary series following her son’s killer’s footballing success behind bars.
Unfortunately, it was too late to have the series removed.
The next morning, her former drug dealer Dean Turnbull (Anthony Crank) turned up at Webster’s Autocentre and demanded money from her. Abi was quick to shut him down, she threatened him not to show his face and sent him on his way as Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) watched on.
Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) was then shocked to open the work email and discover that someone had forwarded a sex tape, featuring Abi – and it quickly spread across social media.
Having no recollection of it ever being made, she assumed that it was recorded when she was high on heroin. It transpired that it was part of a cruel deepfake attack, and another video soon followed.
Terrified about the consequences of the video and wondering about how to control the situation, Abi turned to Seb’s girlfriend Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher), who recalled the time a naked video of Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) surfaced, and suggested that she place a DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown on the videos to prevent them being viewed.
This procedure would ask an internet service provider or search engine to remove or disable access.
In tonight’s (5th June) episode, Kevin (Michael Le Vell) met with a man from a company that would be able to enforce the restrictions, but was dismayed to learn that it would cost a might £5,000 a month to retain.
Obviously, the Webster’s don’t have this sort of cash – but before they could ponder their next move, the twins’ adoptive mum called to deliver another devastating blow.
Informing Abi that Lexi had chicken pox, and was therefore unable to attend their planned meet-up, she became convinced that it was actually the videos that had prevented access.
The situation infuriated the couple more than ever, and they sought to track down the IP addresses of those responsible for posting them.
Will they get to the bottom of this horrific situation?
