The wedge between David and Shona Platt (Jack P. Shepherd and Julia Goulding) grew deeper on Wednesday’s Coronation Street, as they clashed over Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) baby son Frankie.
David’s stepson Max Turner (Paddy Bever) has offered to take care of the newborn should Lauren isn’t able to be transferred to a mother and baby unit if she’s convinced of Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) murder.
Earlier this month, a series of flashbacks revealed how Lauren killed her abuser while trying to save Max, who was being attacked by Joel.
While Max confessed to Joel’s murder and agreed to keep Lauren’s name out of it, Shona handed a later revealing his plan over to the police, thus releasing him and sealing Lauren’s fate.
With Lauren now awaiting trial, Frankie’s future also hanging in the balance.
During the latest episode of the ITV soap, the Platts were assessed for their suitability to take Frankie in, and despite Max and Shona’s enthusiasm, David seemed much less keen on the idea.
Later on, a row between David and Shona erupted as he made his feelings on the matter explicitly clear, prompting his wife to storm out of the house in anger.
When she returned, the pair sat down to discuss things before Shona hit David with a curveball – she wants to have contact with her son Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison).
Earlier this month, David intercepted messages and calls from Clayton to his mother, and has also been hiding the fact he paid him a visit in jail to falsely tell him Shona wanted nothing to do with him.
David was later guilt-ridden when Shona had a call from the police informing her that Clayton had tried to take his own life.
When Shona subsequently discovered Clayton’s first email, David gaslit her and convinced his wife that she may have missed it due to her brain injury
With Shona now determined to be there for Clayton, David served to remind her of how he held his first wife Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) in his arms as she died after Clayton stabbed her in the street.
But with his words having little effect on Shona, what does the future hold for the deeply divided couple?
