Beloved Corrie couple ‘call it quits’ with split ‘confirmed’ as star admits ‘it’s not good’
A beloved Coronation Street couple are reportedly set to split after a dramatic few months, with one of the stars admitting that "it's not looking good" for the pair
A Coronation Street couple are set to call it quits following a dramatic few months.
Hearts are set to break in Weatherfield as the beloved Bernie Winter (played by Jane Hazlegrove) and her beau Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) seem to be on the brink of a shake-up following some intense months on the screen. The unlikely lovebirds initially surprised fans when they got together but have since blossomed in their unconventional romance.
Dev turned his life around and took Bernie under his wing, choosing to overlook her shady history. The shopkeeper became a pillar of support, especially after her son Paul Foreman (played by Peter Ash) was diagnosed with MND last year.
During the heartfelt storyline, viewers saw Paul losing function in his hands and subsequently visiting a neurologist. After an emotional deterioration of his speech and mobility, Paul sadly became confined to his apartment, rendered helpless by his condition.
But in a cruel twist of fate, this week’s episodes led to heartache as Paul passed away, leaving viewers in tears as he died on Monday (September 9), tragically alone because his other half Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) couldn’t reach the hospital on time. Paul breathed his last as his loved ones frantically tried to get Billy to his bedside to say one last goodbye.
Billy confessed his love to his husband, but Paul passed away before he could hear it. Paul’s twin sister Gemma (played by Dolly-Rose Campbell) was about to break the devastating news to Billy over the phone, but their mother Bernie intervened.
Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie, has hinted at a potential split between her character and Dev. In an interview with Liverpool Echo and other media outlets, Jane discussed Dev’s reaction to Paul’s death, suggesting that heartbreak may be looming. She revealed: “He’s very supportive and extremely kind.”
The actress went on to say: “Perhaps a bit too kind, and the grief is going to come out through that I’m afraid. And it’s not necessarily good I’m afraid,” hinting at a possible breakup between Bernie and Dev.
