Beloved Corrie icon’s return ‘exposed’ 12 years after exit to ‘save Roy’ after arrest
Coronation Street’s Roy Cropper is currently banged up for the murder of Lauren Bolton - but fans reckon former character Becky McDonald could make a return to “save” the soap alum
A Coronation Street legend could be making a surprise return to the soap to help Roy Cropper.
Becky McDonald, played by Katherine Kelly, first rocked up to the cobbles in 2006. A troubled youngster, Roy Cropper (David Neilson) and wife Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) took Becky under their wing.
And over the years, the mouthy Rovers barmaid had her fair share of big stories. From affairs to feuds, her time on the cobbles was not short of drama.
But in 2012, she left fans gutted when she quit the soap after six years. But now, it’s been claimed a return could be on the cards, amid Roy Cropper’s downfall over on the soap at the moment.
In Weatherfield recently, Roy was arrested and charged with the murder of missing youngster Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton). Fans will recall she went missing earlier this year – with Roy being the last known person to see her alive.
And it didn’t take long for Roy to become DS Lisa Swain’s number one suspect. Now, with Roy currently banged up in prison, fans reckon Becky could somehow make a return to “save” Roy.
Over on a Corrie Reddit thread discussing characters fans wish would return, Becky’s name popped up. One person said: “Becky 100%.” Someone else added: “Becky, she could come and help ar Roy.” A third agreed and penned: “Becky for Roy’s sake!”
AI tool Gemini has also echoed the theory. Daily Star has quizzed one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools Gemini, to see if Becky could make a return to the soap. The program responded with a list of reasons as to why it would be a “good” storyline.
The system said: “Becky was a popular character known for her feisty personality and loyalty. Fans might be excited to see her return and potentially bring back some past dynamics on the cobbles.”
Another reason could be: “Unfinished Business: Depending on how her exit story was handled, there could be room for Becky to have unfinished business in Weatherfield, giving her reason to return and help Roy.”
While the system also pointed out how she could help him amid his arrest troubles. Gemini explained: “As a friend of the Croppers, Becky could be a compelling advocate for Roy’s innocence, bringing a fresh perspective to the case.”
