Broken Billy Mayhew shares kiss with surprise character weeks after Paul Foreman’s death in Coronation Street

Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) made a shocking move in recent Coronation Street scenes when he kissed one of his neighbours following Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) funeral.

Paul sadly died last month after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease, and in tonight’s episode it came time for his family to lay him to rest.

After several weeks of preparation, Billy led Paul’s funeral service as his friends and family gathered – including a surprising visitor.

Ahead of the ceremony, Billy found Paul’s dad Denny in the church and warned him to keep out of sight during the funeral – but unfortunately, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) soon discovered that Billy had allowed Denny to stay.

Hurt, Bernie began to row with Billy, and soon let slip that Paul had already passed away during their final phone call, leaving Billy devastated.

Later, at Paul’s wake, Billy got very drunk, before wandering down the road to Victoria Gardens, closely followed by Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).

Billy was quick to confide in him about how sad he was to have missed his last moments with Paul, but Todd reassured him by suggesting that perhaps Paul was happy to go when he did, and to have had a normal conversation as their last.

After the heart-to-heart, Todd accompanied Billy home, where he continued to comfort Billy, explaining that he just wants him to be happy.

However, in his grieving state, Billy mistook Todd’s kindness for something more, and ended up leaning in to kiss him.

This left Todd shocked, as he made it very clear that he knew this wasn’t what Billy really wanted.

Billy tried to argue that Todd had led him on, and demanded that he leave, but soon his emotion took over and Billy ended up breaking down in Todd’s arms.

In upcoming scenes, Billy and Paul’s family will continue to try and navigate their grief, as Summer Spellman actress Harriet Bibby told us at the Inside Soap Awards.

‘Everyone has a different way of grieving that we’re seeing on screen right now, and how do you help or hinder each other in that process?’ She teased.
