Carla Connor comes to the rescue as Lisa Swain is left reeling after sad death discovery in Coronation Street

Carla Connor and Lisa Swain look serious in front of a gloomy Coronation Street

Carla Connor (Alison King) was forced to rescue DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) from the Rovers in recent Coronation Street scenes when she made a show of herself after a heavy drinking session.

Though Lisa’s day started positively, with her return to work set in stone, things took a sudden downturn when she bumped into daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin).

When Betsy asked for money to buy some flowers, Lisa was confused, before Betsy reminded her that it was Becky’s birthday.

Viewers will know that Lisa’s wife and Betsy’s other mum Becky was killed on duty after being mowed down by a car almost three years ago.

Betsy was horrified that Lisa could forget, and left her feeling extremely guilty as she stormed off.

With Betsy refusing to speak to her, Lisa took to the Rovers alone, where she wasted no time in drinking herself into a stupor.

Between misfired darts and an attempt at karaoke, Lisa caused plenty of chaos for poor barman Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott), who quickly called Carla to come and deal with the situation.

When Carla arrived, she was horrified by the sight of the detective sergeant as she asked for another drink.

Putting aside her hard-faced reputation, Carla took Lisa back to her flat to look after her.

Though Lisa was keen to carry on the party, Carla suggested drinking a nice mug of tea instead.

It was then that Lisa revealed that that was something Becky used to say, before finally letting Carla in on the reason she’d got into this state in the first place.

As she told her about Becky’s forgotten birthday, Lisa lamented about being a terrible wife and mother.

Carla was quick to reassure her, insisting that Becky would forgive her for forgetting if she was still around.

However, her words fell on deaf ears as Lisa had already curled up and fallen asleep on Carla’s sofa.

Retrieving a blanket, Carla tucked her in before leaving her to sleep off the drink.

It’s safe to say that Lisa’s head won’t be feeling good in the morning!
