Coronation Street bad boy teases rival soap stint just weeks after cobbles exit

Ciarán Griffiths said his goodbyes to Coronation Street earlier this year after two years playing Damon Hay - but the actor once previously teased a potential stint on rival soap Neighbours

A former Coronation Street star could be set for a stint in a rival soap.

Actor Ciarán Griffiths, 40, made his cobbles debut in 2022 playing the role of bad boy Damon Hay. And it’s fair to say he played a part in plenty of drama in Weatherfield.

Fans will recall how Damon ended Sarah Barlow (Tina O’Brien) and Adam’s marriage by sleeping with Sarah and getting her pregnant. Sadly, Sarah lost the baby and ended up splitting from Adam when he found out about the affair.

Damon and Sarah rekindled things though when he made his return to the soap this year. However, Adam was hell-bent on revenge and even enlisted Damon’s brother Harvey (Will Mellor) to take him down.

However, Harvey then blackmailed Damon into committing crimes for him on the outside, including armed robbery. In dramatic scenes, Damon ended up getting arrested while trying to pull off the stunt for his brother.

Ultimately, Damon pleaded guilty and was sent to jail, meaning actor Ciarán left the soap. A source told The Sun : “Ciaran’s loved his time on the show but Damon’s story came to a natural end for now. The door has been left open but for now, it’s time to say goodbye to him.”

However, it seems Ciarán has been eyeing up a stint on rival soap Neighbours for a while, as the actor actually lives in Australia, with his family.

What’s more, in 2022, he appeared in Channel 5 thriller Riptide, created by the Neighbours production company (Fremantle Australia), which was partly filmed in the studio used by the Aussie soap.

Back in May last year, Ciarán was quizzed on whether he would like to join the Aussie soap. He said: “Yeah, if it meant I could have regular work near my family, then absolutely.”

He added to Inside Soap magazine: “Melbourne is a great city. I’d want to play something completely different to anything I’ve done before, so maybe some old washed-up, Meth-head surfer. I’d get to be out in the sun!”

Comparing filming TV out in Aus to filming in the UK, Ciarán said: “They’re a lot more laid-back in Australia. The pace is a bit slower — but the weather’s better!
