A Coronation Street character may be set for a dramatic exit after an arson attack in recent scenes.
This week, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) has been investigating a suspicious fire at the offices of Stefan Brent, and it didn’t take long for Abi and Kevin Webster (Sally Carman and Michael Le Vell) to fall into the frame.
With the detective on their backs, Abi grew suspicious of step-son Jack Webster (Kyran Bowes), and it didn’t take long for him to confess that he had set fire to Stefan’s car hoping to get his own back for the way he’d treated his family.
Stefan has been tormenting the Webster family in recent weeks, after targeting Kevin and Abi with deepfake porn videos.
After Jack came clean to his family, Abi and Kevin debated how to handle the situation, though it was soon taken out of their hands when Jack confessed of his own accord.
In tonight’s episode, Jack was questioned by DS Swain, and he insisted that he’d had no idea that Stefan was still in the building when he’d set the place alight.
Unfortunately, this story didn’t add up for Swain, who pointed out that CCTV proved that it was very clear the building wasn’t empty when Jack started the fire.
Because of this, DS Swain revealed that Jack would be charged with arson with the intent to endanger life – a very serious crime indeed.
Following the interrogation, solicitor Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) explained to Abi and Kevin that Jack could be looking at a spell in youth offenders.
He revealed that if he pleaded guilty then he would likely end up wearing a tag, but may be able to avoid a custodial sentence.
However, when Kevin questioned the possibility of a not guilty plea, Adam warned that if the jury found him guilty, then Jack would have a higher risk of being put behind bars.
What will he decide to do?
