A Coronation Street couple dramatically split in recent scenes, leaving both parties gutted.

Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) and Dev Alahan’s (Jimmi Harkishin) relationship has been on the rocks this week after some poor choices from businessman Dev.

He first upset Bernie by sending Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) ashes off with the space launch company before she’d had chance to say goodbye.

Things got even worse when Bernie learnt that Dev had temporarily laid off Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) after the closure of the kebab shop, and was refusing to pay him.

With their relationship in trouble, Dev came up with a drastic plan to try and fix things.

At the quads birthday party, Dev took on the role of children’s entertainer, but his balloon-modelling skills left a lot to be desired.

However, his big finish saw him give a balloon to Bernie, before popping it to reveal an engagement ring.

As he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him, horrified Bernie fled the party, leaving a whole host of shocked faces in her wake.

When Dev later met her at the Rovers, she made it clear that she wasn’t happy about how he’d made the quads’ birthday all about him.

Though Dev insisted that that hadn’t been his intention, Bernie pointed out that she already had enough to deal with without him throwing a proposal at her as well.

Dev admitted the timing was wrong, but declared that he wanted to show how much he loved her.

Tragically, Bernie revealed that she wasn’t in the right headspace to love him back, and called it quits on their relationship entirely, leaving Dev gutted.

Back at home, Bernie allowed herself to sob as she held onto Paul’s jumper. Is this officially the end for Dev and Bernie, or will they find their way back together?
