This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.
Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) and Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) finally got justice in recent Coronation Street scenes when cult leader Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper) was found guilty in court.
Rowan ensnared Leanne into sinister cult The Institute earlier this year, which left her finances and relationships in tatters.
After months of brainwashing, Leanne drew young Amy into the fold, and convinced her to invest her inheritance into a new resource centre.
However, it turned out to be a scam, and Amy lost everything.
After finally seeing The Institute for what it really was, Leanne made it her mission to get justice for herself and Amy and see Rowan pay for his crimes.
In tonight’s episode, Amy and Leanne both took the stand in court, where they told the judge and jury exactly what Rowan had put them through, while facing tough cross-examination from the defence lawyer.
The defence’s tactic was to make out that Leanne had been the one to instigate everything, though she adamantly denied the allegations, arguing that Rowan was the one to blame.
She explained how he had tried to use her vulnerability to blackmail Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) into funding the resource centre, and that all she’d wanted was for The Institute to make her a better person.
Having been put through the ringer, Leanne ended up lashing out at Rowan from the stand, revealing that he had taken everything from her.
Rowan was quick to clap back, insisting that he couldn’t be blamed for Nick and Toyah’s infidelity.
Though Leanne was worried that her outburst in court had ruined her case, she was later relieved to discover that Rowan had been found guilty, and Amy was thrilled to be getting some of her money back.
