Coronation Street fans demand Weatherfield legend returns to soap – begging ‘she’s so missed and a natural fit!’
The character left the cobbles almost a decade ago
CORONATION Street fans have been begging for a popular former character to make a return to the cobbles.
Julie Carp, played by actress Katy Cavanagh, was introduced as a love interest for Kirk Sutherland.
She made her first appearance on the ITV soap opera in 2008, staying for seven years.
A particularly memorable storyline saw Julie revealed as the half-sister of Eileen Grimshaw, with the pair sharing the same father, Colin Grimshaw.
Julie, Eileen and Colin are also related to Corrie icons Elsie Tanner and Dennis Tanner who were part of the soap’s original cast.
During her time on the show, Julie developed a relationship with teacher Brian Packham.
This storyline saw Julie and Brian ultimately depart together for their happily ever after.
However, Brian returned to the show after the couple’s off-screen break up and he remains part of the cast today.
A Coronation Street fan on X (formerly Twitter) put the case forward for Julie to return after almost a decade.
They wrote: “Much-missed, slightly kooky knicker stitcher. A natural fit for #Corrie.
“Miraculously survived being introduced as a girlfriend for Kirk.
“Loved her idiosyncratic dress sense. My most wished-for returnee. #BringBackJulieCarp #CorrieCharacterCountdown.”
Fellow viewers were quick to share their agreement.
One commented: “Julie was fabulous! Would LOVE a return!”
Another added: “Loved her during her more serious moments. Ripping up her dress during the minibus crash comes to mind.”
A third shared: “Absolutely love her – she didn’t need to be just a comedy character either, it was heartbreaking when she found out she wasn’t really pregnant.
“As long as Eileen is around there’s a reason for her to come back.”
