Coronation Street fans ‘work out’ Joel’s secret after telling Dee-Dee he loves her

After meeting in the bistro, Coronation Street's Joe reassured Dee-Dee he wasn't about to break up with her - instead telling her he loves her. But fans are very suspicious

Coronation Street viewers were left questioning Joel Deering’s motives following his conversation with girlfriend Dee-Dee Bailey in the Viaduct Bistro on Friday night.

As the pair sat down to chat, Dee-Dee expressed concerns that a shifty-looking Joe was about to break up with her. But to quite the contrary, Joel, who first arrived in the Street in September, declared that he’s falling in love with her. Their conversation was soon interrupted by the arrival of Emily however, prompting Joel to act even more suspicious.

He swiftly escorted a clearly angry Emily off the premises, with an intrigued Toyah looking on. Then, after Dee-Dee invited him back to her place they were interrupted once more by the sound of Joel’s phone beeping with a text message, prompting him to nervously decline her kind offer.

Fans immediately took to X (formerly Twitter), predicting that the woman who visited and sent the text message was Joel’s wife.

Fans first suspected Joel could be hiding something way back in October. Back then Joel confronted Dee-Dee’s dad Ed about his gambling addiction, knowing exactly where he got the money that was gifted to Michael leading to his arrest. And while Ed begged him not to tell Dee-Dee that he was betting again, something sinister passed over Joel’s face.

It led plenty of fans to suspect a blackmailing plot – and some came to the realisation that if Joel can blackmail Ed, he might not be the only victim. Lauren Gordon is simultaneously being hounded for money from a mystery caller, leading her to desperate measures with Ryan and Daisy.

Drawing a connection between the two incidents, fans now suspect Joel could be the one blackmailing Lauren, potentially hiding that the pair secretly know each other. Taking to Facebook, one viewer said: “Just had a thought and I might be way off here but what if the person Lauren’s talking to is her landlord… DeeDee’s new boyfriend?”Another agreed: “Now there’s a thought!” while a third posted: “I don’t trust that Joel bloke… something about him I can’t put my finger on.” A fourth penned: “I can’t put my finger on why I don’t trust DeeDee’s fella. He looks too dodgy.”
