Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) has to make a decision soon as she learns there’s a chance she could lose her job in Coronation Street.
Maria hasn’t been working at the salon over the past few weeks as she’s been home-schooling and looking after son Liam (Charlie Wrenshall).
Recently in the ITV soap, Maria and Gary (Mikey North) made the discovery teenager Liam was feeling suicidal.
After being relentlessly bullied by a group of boys at school, Liam lost all hope and began to google ways he could end his life.
.
Fortunately, Maria and Gary found him in time. Maria took Liam to the doctors to get help for his mental health and now, he remains on a road to recovery and is working hard to build his confidence back up.
While Liam has made great progress, the worry Maria experiences surrounding him and his mental health has not disappeared.
The hairdresser constantly fears what may happen to her son if he is left alone and in upcoming episodes, the anxiety starts to impact other areas of her life.
David (Jack P Shepherd) finds Maria and tells her that if she doesn’t return to work very soon, Audrey (Sue Nicholls) will look to replace her.
Maria confides in Gary and tells him that she might lose her job if she doesn’t return within the next few weeks and although they need the money, she doesn’t feel ready to leave Liam.
Gary then approaches Carla (Alison King) and reveals that he’s thinking of selling the factory building and he’d like her to have first refusal. It’s a massive offer, one that could help Maria and Gary hugely, but Carla ends up admitting that she can’t actually afford it.
But if Maria isn’t ready to return to work full-time, can the family get by just on Gary’s income?
Or will she head to the salon consumed with fear over what may happen to Liam if he’s left alone?
