Coronation Street finally reveals who Bernie Winter’s secret son is – and it’s someone you know well
Coronation Street has finally revealed the identity of Bernie Winter’s (Jane Hazlegrove) long lost son, and it is someone that soap fans will know very well.
It was recently revealed that Bernie had a secret son, Zodiac, who twins Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) have no idea exists.
In tonight’s (May 13) episode, Bernie explained to Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) that she had chosen to give him away as a baby, as she would have struggled to cope with another baby, having already had the twins.
Earlier in the episode, Bernie revealed how she had found out that Zodiac’s adopted parents had changed his name to Christopher Green, and she had been visiting every person she could find with that name in a bid to find her son.
When she later visited another Christopher Green, he caught her rooting through his drawers, and when he threatened to call the police and report her for theft, she explained why she was really there.
However, she was left disappointed when he revealed that he hadn’t been adopted.
Later, Bernie explained how she had given her son away with a little jade elephant toy – which lo and behold now belonged to the same Christopher Green she had visited earlier.
Soap fans will have recognised Christopher – or Kit – as former Hollyoaks star Jacob Roberts, who played Damon Kinsella in the Channel 4 soap for six years.
During his time on the show, he found out that Scott Drinkwell (Ross Adams) was his estranged older brother, who was placed up for adoption at birth, and before long the two dealt with the death of their mum Maggie (Michelle Holmes).
He also lied in court to save his paedophile father Buster Smith (Nathan Sussex) from facing prison time, but was caught out and charged with perjury.
Kit is set to be thrown straight into the action when, as a detective, he is brought in by DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) to help solve the mystery of missing teenager Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
In Wednesday night’s (May 15) episode, things take an unexpected turn when a drunken Bernie bumps into Kit on the street and he arrests her for being drunk and disorderly.
Still hiding his true identity from his birth mother, the Weatherfield cop uses his job to find out more about her rather colourful past.
Does Christopher ‘Kit’ Green want to reconnect with his biological mother? And how will he feel when he discovers that she has two other children older than him that she didn’t give up for adoption?
Speaking about his new role, Jacob said: ‘I’m looking forward to everyone meeting Kit but I do think he is going to be a very misunderstood character at first.
‘He’s been really hurt throughout his life and although he has a good heart, he has some deep rooted resentment with his biological mum, Bernie, which will be really interesting to play out.’
