Lauren Bolton has been missing for weeks – and the storyline won’t end anytime soon.
Lauren, played by Cait Fitton, mysteriously disappeared from Coronation Street last month and is now presumed dead. Her abrupt exit came shortly after it was suggested she had been physically abused by an unknown person.
Fans will remember that Lauren had an older boyfriend who was sending her lavish gifts and supporting her financially. Shortly after she called off their romance, she vanished. In their search for Lauren, the police discovered clues pointing towards her being dead. They also revealed that forensic evidence found in her flat was consistent with a violent assault.
Suspicion has now turned to Roy Cropper (David Neilson) who was the only person Lauren told of her plans to leave Weatherfield and the last to see her alive. He will be arrested during Friday’s episode (March 15), but the crime is far from solved.
Cait, 21, opened up about the hard-hitting storyline involving her character and confessed it could spill into 2025. She told The Sun: “There’s a lot happening with her [Lauren], I love playing her. Big things are coming for Lauren in 2024.
“With the whole boyfriend thing, I can’t say too much but it is going to unfold over the next year potentially. It’s a heavy storyline but Coronation Street always smash the hard-hitting stuff, so I’m really excited.”
Cait admitted that her character still has a long way to go until she has redeemed herself in the eyes of her fellow Corrie residents. Following Roy’s arrest, he becomes a virtual prisoner in his own home as teenagers become intrigued by the case and his involvement.
Roy’s decision to attend a vigil for the missing teenager results in him being heckled by a baying mob who are filming them on his phone. David, 75, who made his first appearance as Roy in 1995, discussed how his character feels when he is threatened by the group of men who suspect he had something to do with Lauren’s disappearance.
The actor said: “I think he’s a great student of life in a lot of ways. Here are these people threatening him, an old guy on his own and yes he’s frightened. But he’s like, I don’t know where they are coming from, what is wrong with them, they’re human, he is human, why is this happening? It is almost like an intellectual thing. He would never dream of doing what they are doing so he doesn’t understand what is going on.”
