Coronation Street Leanne Battersby takes cult leader Rowan down – but Amy Barlow’s exit ‘sealed’

Leanne Battersby has decided to take action against Rowan Cunliffe this Wednesday, while Amy Barlow’s deepest and darkest secret could land her in prison.

The Coronation Street teen portrayed by Elle Mulvaney fell for Rowan’s (Emrhys Cooper) manipulation tactics, opening up to him about spiking date rapist Dan in late, 2023. An ordeal she was supported through by Aadi Alahan and opened up about during a chat with the Institute leader.

But while she thought Dan was part of the past, Amy was horrified to discover Rowan had recorded their conversation in a bid to blackmail her, hinting she could be sent to prison.

Meanwhile, Leanne (Jane Danson) finally discovered that Rowan was blackmailing everyone around him, including Nick and Toyah as she found out they were having an affair in scenes aired this Wednesday (September 4).

Elsewhere, Amy updated her parents Steve McDonald and Tracy Barlow (Simon Gregson and Kate Ford), telling them about Rowan’s tricks and leaving them worried she could go to prison again, after her rape ordeal led her to lash out and get arrested a first time.

While Leanne’s discovery led to a showdown between her, her sister Toyah (Georgia Taylor) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) in the Bistro, the restaurateur grew determined to take Rowan down as she rushed to No.1 to suggest a solution to Amy, after confronting the cult leader about his actions.

Though Leanne suggested a plan to take Rowan down, Amy made it clear she was also keen to get her inheritance money back, which was enough to spark some minor tension between them. Over on social media, however, many X users have recently pointed out that Leanne was finally rebelling against Rowan.

“Keep thinking Leanne is starting to go against Rowan then she just ignores Nick and Toyah make ur mind up!”, one wrote on the social media platform. “Leanne having doubts about Rowan & institute? time for Rowan’s photographic evidence to be revealed to win her onside”, another added. A third continued: “I’ve got an awful feeling gullible Leanne is going to bring Rowan down and turn out to be the hero.” But will she really come to her senses?

One recent theory on social media suggested that Amy’s murderous mother Tracy may be the ideal contender to finally trigger Rowan’s downfall.

“Please tell me this ends with Nick saying to Rowan ‘that’s Tracey Barlow, Amy’s mum – Google her’ and then we never see him again”, one speculated on Reddit. Another added: “Maybe Tracey will just remove him from living. for trying to lure her daughter into a cult. We can hope.”
