Coronation Street lines up surprise proposal in Nick and Leanne storyline

Coronation Street will air a surprise proposal for Nick Tilsley and Leanne Battersby next week, as the couple try to put their recent tensions behind them.

Simon Barlow has been inadvertently driving a wedge between the pair due to his reckless behaviour, and things come to a head during Sunday’s episode (February 11), when Simon crashes Leanne’s car while driving over the legal alcohol limit with Nick’s son Sam Blakeman in the back seat.

Leanne agrees to cover for Simon behind Nick’s back, but the plan backfires when Sam is rushed to hospital in the aftermath of the crash and Leanne is forced to reveal the truth.

Furious Nick kicks Simon out of the flat, forcing him to spend the night on a bench in Victoria Garden, with upset Leanne accusing Nick of always putting Sam first.

In scenes that will air on Wednesday, February 14, guilty Simon admits to Nick, Leanne and Toyah Battersby that he’s been drinking too much in the past few months and he intends to change his ways.

While Leanne hugs him, it’s clear that Nick doesn’t share her optimism over Simon’s behaviour.

When Toyah lets slip that Nick was planning to propose to Leanne before the car crash derailed things, Leanne is taken aback. She then takes matters into her own hands, getting down on one knee and proposing to Nick in the Bistro.

After all the recent tension between them, will Nick accept and agree to marry Leanne again?

Leanne and Nick have previously been married twice, from 1998-99 and again from 2013-14.

Star Jane Danson, who joined the soap as Leanne in 1997, recently opened up about the backlash that she received when the Battersby family first arrived on the cobbles.

“People wrote to me all the time saying, ‘We hate you. Leave our street!'” she said. “I was just a girl from Bury who’d done a few bits of acting so as an 18-year-old that was a big shock.”
