Coronation Street ‘reveals’ Betsy Swain’s secret as she makes tearful confession
DS Lisa Swain is doing what she can to bring Joel Deering to justice but when her daughter Betsy reveals she is keeping a huge secret, the detective is forced to take action
Betsy Swain is keeping a massive secret to herself in Coronation Street but the pressure builds up and she finally cracks next week.
The devious teenager portrayed by Sydney Martin was introduced as the daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) earlier this year as the detective embarked on a lengthy investigation to figure out what really happened to Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
In more recent instalments of the ITV soap, Betsy was frightened when she began to blackmail Joel Deering (Calum Lill) over his attraction to younger girls and he responded with a vicious threat. Carla Connor (Alison King) has since given her a chance at the Underworld factory, like she once did with Nina Lucas.
But in scenes airing next week, Betsy is on edge as she summons her pal Sabrina Adetiba (Luana Santos, who is set to leave the Manchester-based programme) to the precinct and admits that she has done something really bad.
Lisa is shocked when Betsy makes a huge confession and she decides to take her to the police station
Meanwhile, her mother Lisa is going above and beyond to catch Joel for his crimes against Lauren Bolton as she and Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) spot the Bistro van has a dashcam.
Keen to get the evidence they need against the duty solicitor, the pair go through the footage, hoping to trace the company that sent Joel the abortion pills he used to kill his unborn son. Lisa ascertains that the parcel came from a private clinic and decides to call them to get her hands on the sender’s details.
Later on, Betsy breaks down to Carla and reiterates her confession as she says that she has done something really bad. Lisa arrives at the knicker factory soon after, leaving Betsy to lay her cards on the table. Shocked by her tale, Lisa tells her teen daughter that they need to go to the police station together – but what will Betsy confess?
This comes as Lisa Swain is speculated to embark on a romantic relationship with Carla Connor, after begging the businesswoman to give her daughter a job. Over on social media such as X, otherwise known as Twitter, multiple fans of the soap have been hoping to see Carla and Lisa grow closer as the pair often share brief scenes together.
However, during a chat with Radio Times in July, 2024, actress Alison King poured cold water on the speculation as she said: “Unless they know something I don’t, as far as I know I don’t think it’s going that way! Though if the fans keep talking about it, the producers might get ideas!”
She’d then added: “I believe it came from them sharing their softer sides recently to each other. They are two strong women, both at an important stage of their independent life having been through a hell of a lot and are reaching out to each other.”
