Coronation Street spoilers: Billy leaves Summer gutted with decision in exit storyline
Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) had a surprising and somewhat unfair response to Summer Spellman’s (Harriet Bibby) news in Coronation Street.
The beloved character has experienced a lot of stress following Paul’s (Peter Ash) MND diagnosis but is desperately trying to hold things together for the sake of his partner, who was told at the end of last year he only has around 6-12 months left to live.
The intensity of Paul and Billy’s situation increased a few weeks ago, when Billy agreed to help Paul end his life when the time comes – something only a small handful of people know about.
In tonight’s (February 12) episode, after receiving a letter in the post, Summer sat down with Billy and told him that she had been offered the chance to study in America.
From the look on Summer’s face, it was clear she was incredibly torn over whether or not to go because of Paul.
Billy gave his thoughts, but ended up telling Summer that if she went to America and missed time with Paul, she might feel different when she got there.
The vicar also told Summer that telling Paul would be a bad idea, because he’d tell her to go, and then miss her dearly if she left Weatherfield.
Trying to hide how gutted she felt, Summer suggested asking the placement to be put back a year, and Billy agreed.
The comments from Billy came across a little unfair but given how Paul’s time is running out, he was obviously trying to think of what would be best for both Summer and his husband.
But was that the right approach?
Will Summer end up regretting not leaving for America now?
And if Paul finds out, how will he react to not being a part of this decision?
