Love is on the horizon for heartbroken Steve McDonald.
In Coronation Street scenes set to air next week, Steve moans to David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) that there’s been no interest in his dating profile. Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) suggests he should try the cocktail night at the Chariot Square if he wants to meet someone.
Steve returns home to find Ken Barlow (William Roache) trying on different jackets. When Ken reveals that he’s going to join him for cocktail night at the Chariot Square, Steve does his best to appear pleased but will the evening go?
Debbie approaches Ken and Steve with drinks and pointing out Elspeth (Helen Lederer), an older lady in the corner, explains that she bought them and she’s had her eye on Ken all evening. Steve’s incredulous to realise Ken’s pulled and decides to get back on the horse and sets off for the speed dating night at the Rovers.
With the speed dating in full flow, Steve’s unimpressed to find himself sitting opposite his estranged wife Tracy, who recently cheated on him with former footballer Tommy Orpington, but at the next move he hits it off with Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney). The speed dating over, Steve suggests to Cassie they meet up again. Are things looking up for Steve? With the chaos of the evening over and the pub closed, Rovers barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth (Jorgie Porter) heads through to the bar to find masked burglars raiding the till.
One of the men orders Glenda to get down on the floor. Terrified, Glenda does as she’s told. As the robbers make off with the takings, a tearful and panicky Glenda calls the police. Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) returns home to find out from Glenda that they’ve been burgled. Glenda puts on a brave face, but Jenny insists she takes the morning off.
Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) call at the Rovers to retrieve Paul’s laptop and they’re gutted to find out it was stolen by the burglars. Glenda feels terrible. With the pub closed, Glenda offers Jenny and Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) a nightcap, but as she heads through to the bar, she relives the awful events of the night before and it’s clear they’re taking their toll.
