Abi Webster (Sally Carman) receives important news in Coronation Street soon – but it happens right before a disappointing development about another ordeal in her life.
During one afternoon, Abi was listening to the radio at home and overheard a presenter talking abut Corey Brent, the teenager who attacked and killed her son Seb.
Abi learnt that Corey was leading a prison football team and a documentary about it was being created. Horrified, Abi then marched over to the production company office and said it shouldn’t be broadcasted.
Alongside this, Abi has also fallen victim to deepfakes. After realising a pornographic video of her was circulating online, Abi established it was a deepfake – which is a piece of media that has been manipulated to misrepresent someone.
Determined to find the person responsible, upcoming episodes will see Abi tell Kevin (Michael Le Vell) that they need to find a computer whizz who can trace the troll’s real IP address.
After enlisting Max’s (Paddy Bever) help, Abi and Kevin receive news about the documentary.
They discover via an article in the Gazette that the production company has now cancelled the show about Corey’s prison football team. Abi and Kevin are delighted, but then then learn from Max that there’s no way of tracing the person who has uploaded the deepfake videos.
Feeling dejected, Abi tells Kevin that she’s past caring.
Is this the end of the matter?
Will they ever find the person responsible?
