Coronation Street spoilers – Ken Barlow and Steve McDonald hit the town for love – and one of them scores

Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) decides to get back on the dating scene in Coronation Street soon, but gets a shock when Ken Barlow (William Roache) decides to join him.

Steve’s marriage to Tracy (Kate Ford) ended after she had an affair with Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn). Despite Steve saying they could try again, Tracy admitted she was bored in their relationship and didn’t actually want to get back together.

This prompted Steve to set up a dating profile but in upcoming episodes, he’s a little bit frustrated due to the lack of interaction.

Overhearing the conversation is Debbie (Sue Devaney), who says Steve should attend her cocktails evening at the Chariot Square Hotel and he might meet someone there.

Steve returns to Number 1 to get ready, but is surprised when he sees Ken trying on different jackets as well.

Ken announces that he’s coming to the cocktails evening, and Steve does his best to appear pleased.

When they arrive, it isn’t long until a lady called Elspeth, played by Helen Lederer, sends drinks over to them, and is soon invited to join.

Poor Steve is left gutted as he quickly realises Ken and Elspeth are getting along very nicely.

Will he ever find love again?

Speaking about her guest appearance on the show, Helen said: ‘It came out of the blue but for me Coronation Street, of all the soaps, is the most substantial and ironic with such humour, it’s really a class act.

‘So when you get the call for Coronation Street you drop everything. And to be offered a part playing a role opposite William Roache is even more exciting, I had met him once before when I sat next to him at an event and I thought what a lovely man he was and so personable. So for me to be offered this brief role was a joy.’

‘Elspeth is quite a forward person. She is someone who is not afraid to put lipstick on and her hair done, make an effort with her nails and pull the velvet draped dress over her slightly fuller figure and sit at the bar by herself with an open heart and an open mind.

‘She is bold and proud to be there on her own and speak to people.’
