Coronation Street spoilers: Simon’s dramatic exit storyline ‘confirmed’ in sinister cult storyline
After receiving his drink driving sentence, Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) is looking ahead to improving his life – with worrying consequences that could lead to his Coronation Street exit.
Following the departure of his dad Peter (Chris Gascoyne) at Christmas, Simon punished himself for being too drunk and going AWOL, unable to bid him farewell.
His excessive drinking landed him in more trouble Carla found out he’d been drinking on his lunch break and sacked him.
Once again drowing his sorrows in pub, mum Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) dragged him home and the next day he woke up on the sofa, with step-dad Nick Tilsley urging him to take his son Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) to a chess tournament.
Despite his protests, Simon got into the car, well aware that he was over the limit.
As Sam began to fuss in the back seat, he turned his back to scorn him and lost control of the wheel, crashing it into a bollard.
The two fled the scene, but the secrets soon unravelled and Nick urged Leanne to report him to the police.
Last week, he was sentenced to an six month driving ban and 80 hours of unpaid community service, but seemed unfazed by the ruling and looked ahead to the future.
Hearing there was a self-help group meeting at the Chariot Square Hotel, Simon took himself along with Leanne agreeing to drop him off there.
At the seminar, the leader Rowan (Emrhys Cooper) charmed the pair – particularly Leanne – and took enjoyment in their compliments.
In tonight’s (18th March) episode, Simon told his mum that he was going to attend another of Rowan’s lectures and proposed that she join him.
At the hotel, he continued to woo her with his mindfulness ideologies and upon returning home, Nick seemed to notice how enlightened his family had become.
With Alex Bain’s departure from the ITV soap imminent, could he be drawn in further to Rowan’s advances, and could the meetings signal an end to Leanne and Nick’s turbulent 25 year relationship?
