Coronation Street star Luca Toolan reveals Mason’s reaction as Eliza crime is revisited

Coronation Street star Luca Toolan has revealed Mason Radcliffe’s reaction to possibly being outed as the culprit of Eliza Woodrow’s hit-and-run.
The Mason saga continues in scenes airing next week, as the Weatherfield bully sets up Dylan Wilson to ensure he takes the rap for carrying the knife that was used in a recent assault.
After his interrogation with the police, an angry Dylan meets up with Mason and reveals that he outed him as the one who knocked down young Eliza back in September.
Toolan, who plays Mason on the ITV soap, opened up about his character’s reaction to this revelation while recently speaking to Digital Spy and other media.
“The way it was written was that Mason wasn’t too bothered about the hit-and-run coming out, but I tried to play it in a way that he came across like he wasn’t bothered but deep down, internally, he was,” he shared.
“It’s all a facade with Mason. I don’t think he’s a proper hard-man really, is he? He’s putting on this show, this bravado, but deep down he’s just a scared little boy.”
On Dylan’s betrayal, the actor continued: “I think deep down that will scare him a little bit, but he’s going to play it off, and that will anger him a lot. Mason does not like being betrayed. He’s very insecure, he has a lot of trust issues, so that will definitely tick him off. Expect more trouble!”
Toolan also discussed his own reaction to finding out the extent of Mason’s storyline, saying he felt he had to “do it justice”.
“At the start it felt like a big weight on my shoulders because I felt I had to do it justice. I could see how relevant and hitting the story could be for so many people, and I think I’ve learned to cope with that pressure better as time has gone on, and hopefully that’s reflected in the performances,” he explained.
“It was a big task, but it’s motivated me to work hard and do my research and my due diligence and rehearse with the lads.
“I think it’s at a point now where I’m seeing the feedback and how many people are getting into the story and the noise it’s creating, and I’m feeling happy that there was that pressure to motivate me to work as hard as I have.”
