Coronation Street star’s link to Jay Slater as she shared hope before facing abuse

Jay Slater, 19, went missing in Tenerife almost a month ago, and police in Spain have announced a body wearing the same clothes as Jay before he went missing has been found

Vicky asked her followers to help the search for Jay

Coronation Street star Vicky Entwistle was forced to quit social media after she revealed her link to missing teenager Jay Slater.

The 19-year-old, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, has not been heard from since going missing on the Spanish island of Tenerife on June 17, with police scouring the island for clues, and a GoFundMe set up to raise funds to pay for search crews. Vicky, best known for playing Janice Battersby on the long-running ITV soap, took to social media when Jay went missing to encourage her followers to help.

“My God Mother’s Grandson has gone missing. His Mother has flown out 7pm. To join the police search. Hope to God they find him. Please (pray) for him,” she tweeted, just hours after the news broke of Jay’s disappearance. A few days later, she took to social media again, and shared a post on X/ Twitter to update her followers on the search for the missing teen.

“Although Jay has still not been found I am confident that the Spanish authorities are doing their upmost (sic) to find him. My Brother lives in Barcelona and assures me that the news coverage is prevalent on the Spanish mainland,” Vicky tweeted. However, wild conspiracy theories about Jay’s disappearance began to circulate, and the actress was inundated with abusive messages regarding the teenager.

Fed up with the trolling, Vicky decided to take a step back from social media, and quit X/Twitter over the negative comments. “Thank you to all that followed. You made me chuckle often! I wish you well in this toxic crazy world. Good night Vic x,” she wrote, prompting concern from her fans.

“Definitely sounds like you’re leaving, I hope not. The madness needs to be balanced out and you do that incredibly well. I hope, as I’m sure all your followers will, you stay. Hope you’re well,” one commented, as another agreed: “That sound as if you are leaving Vicky. I hope not, I look forward to your tweets. It is a toxic world but put two fingers up to it and never stop being wonderful you. X.”

Spanish police announced on Monday that they have found human remains during their search for Jay, and “all evidence suggests” the teeanger’s body has been discovered. Authorities also said he may have suffered an accident, and his body was found near his phone’s last location and alongside his possessions and clothes.
