Coronation Street viewers figure out who really killed Joel in new twist – but it’s not Carla
Another flashback left Coronation Street viewers with multiple questions about Carla Connor. But another set of soap fans believe Joel's murderer is still at large.
Carla Connor is the latest resident to be pointed out as a potential suspect for Joel Deering’s murder – but there could be more to her involvement.
Reeling from her divorce from Peter Barlow, the Underworld factory boss portrayed by Alison King has slowly been getting closer to DS Lisa Swain and Coronation Street viewers have been keen for the pair to embark on a relationship, though their slow-burn romance may have to wait as Lisa actress Vicky Myers recently opened up about her character’s inner suffering.
But this Wednesday (October 30), the detective came under fire as her daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) looked for answers and demanded if her mother had killed Joel. This came after Lisa was seen with bruises all over her body.
After some tense scenes, Lisa eventually told Carla that she’d been hit by a car, but she’d never acted out against Joel. This Wednesday’s trip to Weatherfield left viewers with their jaws dropped when a flashback involving Carla revealed she had witnessed something likely to be linked to Joel’s death.

The scene began as Carla and Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) went over their respective alibis for the night of September 27, 2024, and it was clear that she had been lying about her whereabouts. In her flashback, Carla was seen rushing out of the Underworld factory before spotting an unknown assailant roaming on the cobbles – what could have happened?
Despite the supposedly incriminating scene, viewers of the long-running show have refused to believe that Carla has any part of blame in Joel’s murder. Instead, many believe she could have simply spotted the real killer, who would be none other than Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown).
“Carla flashback! Those footsteps sounded like a woman’s to me. Maybe she saw Dee-Dee with the crowbar?”, one of them penned in reference to a flashback involving Dee-Dee and a bloody crowbar. Another questioned: “We can hear a van? Someone in heels? What did you see Carla my love?!”
A third commented: “Idk that flashback of Carla wasn’t very convincing at proving she was involved! I don’t think Carla was involved with the murder of Joel Deering!” A fourth concluded: “What did Carla see? I need answers!!”
Although soap fans are sceptical, Carla has more than enough reason to want to kill Joel, who wreaked havoc on the Street before his death. Prior to being killed off, the villain played by Calum Lill terrorised Lauren Bolton, Ellie and even Betsy Swain, who has been working for Carla for several weeks at Underworld.
To top it all off, Joel had also been successfully dodging justice and even faked his death before his project became a reality. Could Carla have decided to kill Joel or even help the real murderer for Betsy and Lisa?
