Coronation Street’s Ben Price teases ‘double affair’ – but insists love is ‘forever’
EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street hunk Ben Price has teased a double affair twist between Nick Tilsley and Leanne Battersby - even though the power couple have just got engaged
Coronation Street favourite Ben Price admitted Nick Tilsley’s marriage too Leanne Battersby is ‘doomed’ – but insisted their romance will last “forever.”
Over the past few weeks, ITV viewers have watched her lock horns with her partner Nick (played by Ben Price) after they took in Simon Barlow (Alex Bain). The stud has slowly been spiralling out of control after his dad Peter left the street.
It didn’t take long before he started following in his absent father’s footsteps and turned to drink to help soothe his woes. Most recently, the soaps favourite took a turn for the worse when he lost control of his car after having one too many drinks before getting behind the wheel.
But he wasn’t the only one involved in the crash, as Nick’s son Sam (Jude Riordan) stumbled out of the wreckage behind him. Thankfully, the youngster was unharmed, but Simon’s downward spiral has certainly caused a rift between Nick and Leanne.
To help repair their relationship, Leanne (Jane Danson) decided to take their relationship to the next level when she popped the question last month. Following the leap year tradition, the blonde bombshell bravely got down on one knee in the Bistro and asked the silver fox to be her husband.
But things may not go entirely to plan after the 51-year-old revealed that his character might not be ready marriage. Speaking to Daily Star and other press, he warned fans that their relationship could fall apart in the next few months.
When asked about what Nick thinks of their upcoming marriage, he told us: “[Nick’s] not too happy, I don’t think. He thinks one it’s going to cost a fortune and two he’s thinking I could have just slowed this down a bit and it not be too soon or too quick.
“He’s thinking, ‘Ooh this’ll cost a lot of money and I’m not too sure where I am. So I’ll be honest, I think he’s hoping, ‘Let’s have a think, let’s give it six months’.” The couple are forced to test their relationship yet again when Leanne meets a charming newcomer named Rowan (Emerhys Cooper).
When asked if he is concerned about Nick’s feelings and Leanne’s wandering eye, he argued that showing their rocky patches is essential on the show. Ben pointed out: “I think it’s important to show [everything].
“Yes, it should be rocky. Yes, you should always have other people come into the relationship in a show like this. Yes, you should fall madly in love with that story and that person in that time, and [Nick] shouldn’t know. I shouldn’t play the end.
“I think Nick and Leanne in my heart are probably forever, but that’s not to say you shouldn’t have wobbles and it shouldn’t separate for a bit. Because I think that is vital in this show. You can’t stay together and go, ‘Oh no, it’s just Nick and Leanne. We don’t want anyone else’.”
He went on: “That’s not very interesting, and I think what the audience appreciate is something to get them talking at the telly going, ‘Oh, I can’t believe she did that. I can’t believe he did that. But they’ll get back together, I know they will’.
“Because people invest in the relationship. I’ve invested in the relationship. But you should definitely be willing to break all that and see where it goes.” He went on to warn fans that both Leanne and Nick may find other romantic partners on the street.
However, he insisted that the long-standing couple will eventually find a way back to each other. Discussing the tense upcoming storyline, Ben explained: “We’re both very open to Emerhys [Cooper] and that story and I’m very open to whatever story comes my way.
“But then we ‘ll come back together. Definitely at the moment, I think there’s a way back for them.” Viewers will have to stay tuned to see if the couple can work through their differences or whether they will call time on their romance for good.
