Coronation Street’s Bethany Platt breaks down in tears as she receives life-changing news after botched surgery
BETHANY Platt was reduced to tears as she received life-changing news in Coronation Street.
The character – played by Lucy Fallon – was rushed to hospital in Turkey after a botched liposuction procedure.
She had been in the country working in a PR job when she decided to go under the knife.
Initially her boyfriend Daniel Osbourne flew out to be by her side as mum Sarah’s passport was due to expire.
But during tonight’s episode, Coronation Street viewers watched as furious Sarah sent Daniel back to Weatherfield, blaming him for Bethany’s health.
Before he left, Daniel told Sarah how Bethany’s insurance was invalidated because she never told them she was going for surgery – meaning it was up to them to foot the bill.
Currently at £15,000, the cost increases by £2k for every day Bethany spends in the hospital – and medics won’t let her leave the country until it’s paid up in full.
The episode saw Bethany awake amid her sepsis battle as she faced the reality of the botched procedure.
She told her mother: “You honestly tell me you don’t look in the mirror and wonder what you’d change about yourself?”
Sarah replied: “Course I do, doesn’t mean I’m going to do anything about it.”
“Everyone is getting stuff done these days. This is a simple procedure that has gone a bit wrong but it’s not a total disaster.”
But Sarah had to break the devastating news to Bethany that as a result of the damage to her bowls, doctors had to fit her with a permanent stoma.
She told her: “I spoke to the doctor the stoma that they put on, it isn’t just for a few days.
“It’s for the rest of your life.”
As Bethany started to break down in tears, Sarah leaped up to console her.
