CORONATION Street’s Bethany Platt is going to be left fighting for her life when she gets sepsis in a dramatic new storyline.
The journalist – who is played by actress Lucy Fallon in the ITV soap – is at the centre of a major new storyline that will plunge the Platt family into harrowing devastation.
Bethany will end up becoming embroiled in a dodgy cosmetic surgery practice where she will go under the knife.
But in a harrowing turn, she will get a life-threatening infection and end up in hospital with her family praying that she pulls through.
A source revealed: “It’s a really meaty storyline for Lucy to get her teeth into.
“Dodgy cosmetic surgery is a big issue and it can have catastrophic side effects and the hope is that this storyline will make people more aware of that.
“But for Lucy it gives her something really dramatic to play and that’s when she’s at her best.
“It’s really going to hit viewers when the Platts realise just how ill Bethany is.”
The news comes as Lucy is set to exit the soap for maternity leave after announcing she is pregnant with her second child – a baby girl – with footballer boyfriend Ryan Ledson.
Lucy announced she was expecting again on August 19, sharing a first look at her baby bump as she shared the happy news.
She also told her fans she was “halfway there” already – meaning she’d kept the secret for more than four months.
The pair had their first baby together in January 2023, a son named Sonny Jude.
Ryan is a British professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Preston North End.
Lucy previously quit Weatherfield in 2020 after five years, but returned last year.
The news led some fans to fear she may leave the soap again, but she was quick to clarify her future on the cobbles.
Writing on instagram during a Q+A, she said: Lots of Corrie related Q’s.
“I won’t be away for toooo long and I am returning after I pop the baby out xx.”
