Coronation Street’s Carla clashes with DS Swain’s daughter Betsy as she pushes her luck
Carla Connor (Alison King) might have been quick to offer work experience to DS Lisa Swain’s (Vicky Myers) daughter Betsy, but their working relationship doesn’t get off to the best start in forthcoming Coronation Street scenes.
Recent months have seen Carla and Lisa growing close after Lisa led the police investigation into the disappearance of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), and Carla fought to get friend Roy Cropper (David Neilson) out of prison, after he was wrongly charged for her murder.
After Carla’s nephew Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) gave police a false statement to get Roy released, Carla went along with the lie in her interviews with DS Swain – something a horrified Roy ended their friendship over.
During a later meeting at the police station, Carla dodged DS Swain’s questions as to why she’d fallen out with Roy, and upon hearing her arguing on the phone with her daughter, Betsy, DS Swain opened up to Carla about her family life.
Carla learned from Lisa that Betsy had been struggling following the sudden death of her father, and subsequently offered Betsy some work experience at the factory.
Next week sees Betsy get to work at Underworld, and Carla and Fiz Brown (Jenny McAlpine) are impressed with her machining skills.
However, it is not long before there’s a confrontation between Betsy and her new boss, when Carla catches her texting and confiscates her phone.
Will Carla live to regret her offer?
Vicky Myers, who plays DS Lisa Swain, has previously revealed that DS Swain is gay, with fans already keen to see her and Carla get together.
‘I think she perhaps has seen somebody that’s caught her eye but at the moment she’s far too busy with focusing on this investigation and her career and being a single mum and juggling her home life as well with her teenage daughter,’ Vicky said.
