Coronation Street’s Gemma Winter on the run after committing crime that may destroy her future
This is the dramatic moment that sees desperate Gemma Winter, played by Dolly-Rose Campbell, commit theft before fleeing a shop – only to then be collared by a security guard.
The mother of quads has long struggled financially, and is set to find herself in more hardship this spring.
In episodes currently being filmed, Gemma will swipe running shoes from the store as she can’t afford them for her daughter.
But she will wish she had some of her own as she legs it, given she doesn’t get very far.
The crime will put her future at risk as she could land another police record just weeks after social services were sniffing around over her suitability to look after Joseph.
For a long time it was feared that she and Chesney (Sam Aston) might lose Joseph after several incidents – and hospital visits, but Gemma was eventually vindicated as the lad was genuinely ill.
It’s been a difficult time for her as she has been under much pressure over the last few months.
And it’s not just down to being overworked in the home and struggling to cope wth the exhaustion and overwhelming nature of her situation.
Her twin brother Paul Foreman (Peter Ash), is dying, with his Motor Neurone Disease symptoms worsening quickly.
In a heart-wrenching storyline, Gemma can only watch helplessly as her beloved sibling deteriorates.
The storyline will see Paul reach a heartbreaking end, with actor Peter Ash saying: ‘I’ll be sad to leave the show, it’s been an amazing job, I’ve met fantastic people.
‘But also at the same time, happy to be involved in such a powerful storyline that hopefully will bring awareness.’
MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work.
It can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breathe. It affects more than 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time and has no cure.
It remains to be seen what the latest antics for Gemma might mean for her wider family, but she is not the only one of the clan to resort to crime.
Bernie might well have missed Paul’s last Christmas as she was jailed over the festive season for helping to flog stolen laptops.
