Coronation Street fans are certain that DS Swain is related to Lauren Bolton – and have “worked out” who she really is.
The character, played by Vicky Myers made her cobbles debut in 2021. At the time, she rocked up to help lead the police investigation into the death of Seb Franklin.
However, fans will recall that Lauren (Cait Fritton) suddenly vanished from the famous street this year. And it didn’t take long before people raised his suspicions about her disappearance.
DS Swain was the first one on the scene and she swiftly started her investigation and has been determined to find her ever since. But in a shocking twist, Lauren is now presumed to have been murdered.
What’s more, soap icon Roy Cropper (David Neilson) has become DS Swain’s top suspect, and this week things are set to get more dramatic as he attempts to find Lauren’s mum. However, some fans shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, that DS Swain could be related to Lauren and could actually be her mum.
The eagle-eyed fan wrote: “I’ve had a thought that Lauren is gonna be revealed as DS Swain’s daughter!!” Someone else said: “What if Swain is Lauren’s mam, it would be the biggest plot twist.” A third penned: “OMG is Lauren Detective Swain’s daughter ???”
An AI tool has also echoed the fan’s thoughts. Daily Star quizzed one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools Gemini, to see if Lauren could be related to DS Swain. The program then listed reasons why Lauren being DS Swain’s secret daughter could be a compelling storyline. Gemini said: “It adds a whole new layer to DS Swain’s character.
“She’d be investigating a case that hits much closer to home than anyone realizes. This personal connection could cloud her judgment or fuel her determination, depending on how it’s written.”
Another reason would be to ”raise the stakes.” It explained: “If Swain is Lauren’s relative, the mystery of her disappearance becomes even more personal. It would raise the stakes for Swain and make viewers even more invested in the outcome.”
The third reason is an ”unexpected connection.” Gemini said: “It’s not something viewers would necessarily predict, which can be a good thing. Soap operas thrive on unexpected turns, and this could be a juicy one.”
